Late birthday presents in the mail (it makes my birthday last longer)
Owl gel clings
Our neighbors’ grandmother bought this for Fallie because she loves owls so much. We don’t like to put up too many decorations in our house - we like sparse - but we let Fallie hang this up in a window. It made her happy.
Thank you Mumblelard!
Coconut cake at bedtime
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to purchase a premade cake yesterday. Fallie was willing to bake me a cake by herself but I opted for the store made cake - I had to go buy beer anyway. K got home at about 8:00 and they sang happy birthday to me, we ate cake, I opened presents, and the girl children went to bed. That cake tasted pretty darn good too!
This is wonderful!
Thank you! Also thanks for identifying the litter critter - they are so cute. We will be doing the math soon. We are mean, mean parents and make our kids do writing assignments and math every day during the summer break so this is an interesting query to add to their work!
For Finn and Fallie - an early instar grasshopper.
Just because school is out for the summer that doesn’t mean there won’t be annoying grownups asking you to solve math problems. This is just for fun, and so your brains won’t turn to mush while you are on vacation.
If Fallie’s grasshopper can jump two feet every time he leaps, how many times would he have to jump to get from your house to my house? The coordinates for my house are (approximately) 36.84°N 76.35°W, in Portsmouth, Virginia.
How did you figure this out? Do you think it’s possible this is the same grasshopper?
If your mom or dad shares this with you, this would be a good time to talk with them about being smart and safe with strangers on the internet!

Gifts for the skull girls
We received a mysterious box full of treasures from the wonderful seekingtheaftrglow last week. Thank you! Thank you! A million times thank you! Look at all this cool stuff! The Mumblelard family members love notebooks, especially ones with interesting boxes to fill out and unusually lined paper. And it doesn’t matter how many pencils I sharpen, they all quickly disappear from the can! There were also cute erasers and funny stickers (two sheets - one for each girl!) and yummy candy (Finn & Fall are going to trick so many people with the rock candy). The little boxes, Peter Rabbit and My Friend Owl, are probably the most cherished items as the skull girls are always in need of a place to hide small things. This totally made our spring break!
wonderful mail
Look at this cool collection we received in the mail from an imaginary friend! This truly is the coolest bookmark I’ve ever seen. And have I mentioned how much the Mumblelard family loves libraries? And date due cards? They are my preferred bookmark but are difficult to find now. I used them because they were always there, in the back of the library book, and they are pretty thick and sturdy. But now that the Atlanta libraries don’t place them in books I find myself searching my boxes, drawers and bookshelves for them. Sometimes K gives me a small stack of them and it makes me really happy.
