Someone put make up on my girls

Caterpillar life cycle

Fallie has been collecting and studying tent caterpillars for the past few weeks. A few were injured but most of them made it because she hand fed them until they were strong enough to be released in the wild. We usually let insects go right before the girls begin nightly rituals but sometimes we keep a few as pets. Fallie researches what they eat, gives them damp paper towels for moisture, and finds the right jar or habitat for them. Two of her pet caterpillars made cocoons and she checked on them every day. This morning she found a moth! He is tiny and very cute and fuzzy.

What the neighbor taught Fallie

what Fallie found # 11

She was playing with a tennis ball in the side yard yesterday. It rolled down the hill and she chased after it. The ball stopped rolling in a patch of clover and she thought, huh, I want to find a four leaf clover today. When she actually found one (it only took a few minutes), Fallie screamed, picked it and came running to show me. She decided to look for more. Yeah, right… I heard another scream - she found a second four leaf clover! Her sister and three neighborhood kids started searching the clover too. Some kids begged Fallie to give them one of hers. No one else looked as long as she did - they gave up. Another scream, other kids started to cry, and Fallie ran to me with her THIRD four leaf clover in under twenty minutes!

somebody is feeling better

Somehow K manged to avoid the plague and proved to be very, very lucky. I don’t know if it was a stomach virus or the flu but we are all feeling better now. Finn still gets worn out quickly but appetites are coming back and we are all more active. Gopher Guts is panicking - she LOVES a kid with a fever. She was able to snuggle with someone 24 hours a day for a week straight so now she is being a brat and won’t leave me alone.

Thank you to all of our imaginary friends who sent us messages, wishes for a quick recovery and good vibes. It was greatly appreciated and cheered me up quite a bit. Sorry I didn’t respond to everyone - it was a difficult week and a half…

BC - the skull girls and I would still LOVE to see some funny animals if you happen to come across anything good… Thanks so much!

another snow day?

It started snowing this morning and it is supposed to keep snowing all day!  I was surprised that the Atlanta schools didn’t close (they usually close when there is just a threat of snowfall). Fallie’s teacher e-mailed a photo of her class and my kid, who HATES having her picture taken, was the happiest-looking one of all! Maybe they will be released early and get to play outside and have hot chocolate this afternoon.

Finn and Fallie watched a movie yesterday after playing outside for over two hours (it was cold for Atlanta!). They didn’t want to disturb the cat and would have stayed there forever. I do like the little Gophie-sized nest in between the girls.

snow in Atlanta!

We got three inches of snow on Friday and the girl children had so much fun. They had Friday and today off of school (teacher work days? Lincoln’s Birthday? President’s Day?) so it has not been easy to post anything. I tried to capture some of the craziness on my camera and will post more soon.

mini donkeys!

We took a short walk after our Thanksgiving feast and went down to the farmhouse.  They have lamas, sheep, horses and two mini donkeys.  I think they just wanted something to eat but let’s pretend they were excited to see us.

make another wish!

This year Fallie had owl cupcakes at school, an owl shaped cake on her actual birthday, and a three layer chocolate cake at her party.  Eight was a pretty good birthday.

Sammy

I have no idea why she named this tiny crab Sammy but she caught him and took care of him all evening.
