Quail eggs!
This year at the cabin, the skull girls and their cousins were allowed to collect chicken and quail eggs. They only got a really fresh one once and thought it was gross, but cool, that the egg was squishy. They all agreed that they were the best eggs ever and Fallie wants to raise chickens on our deck.
Someone put make up on my girls
Andy with Fallie
She still hates to have her picture taken but I got a few good ones while on vacation in the Smokies. I think Andy will be very pleased with this one.
Finn in the Little River
This is the exact spot on the river where my family has been swimming since I was a few months old. I am still terrified every time we park on the side of the mountain (and I have only driven twice!) but it is the best spot. Obviously our girls love it. This year we were able to convince two cousins who absolutely hate swimming (according to their parents) to get in. They had to be dragged out too.
GPOYW
We returned from the Smoky Mountains on Saturday but we are not ready to be back. I miss my mountains and my little river.
fire packets and collections
This is what Fallie does when there are no insects to study. The top one is some moss and dry dead leaves rolled up in a large, freshly picked leaf which has been tied in a funnel shape with a long blade of grass. She calls them “fire packets” for obvious reasons.
The bottom specimens are from a family reunion in the mountains that we attend every summer. There are several animals that wander the property and the girls are particularly fond of a cat named Oreo. Finn and Fall witnessed him eating some grass one day and from that point forward they made him “snacks.” Yeah, the moss and grass are being smashed flat for a cat to eat and the tiny ferns (?) are for him too. Bouquets of flowers always make nice presents.
