Morbid and creepifying
I was hand sewing a skirt for Fallie to wear during her school presentation on ancient Egypt.  She sat down next to me and started playing with my very sharp, little scissors.  I asked her to be careful because they are so sharp.  Fallie asked, “Are they sharp enough to cut Gophie’s little ears?”

I'm not dead!
Our girls, and three neighborhood kids were playing outside after school.  As usual, someone drove down the street too fast and came back around.  All the adults yelled for Topher, the youngest kid outside (just turned 4), to get to the curb before the car came around the island to where he was.  He did really well - got out of the street and rode his bike over to our driveway once the car was...

Liar, liar, plants for hire
K picked Finn & Fallie up from school yesterday.  They ate popsicles and played at the park for half an hour.  When they got home later than normal, I asked the girls why they were late.  Without any hesitation or blinking, Fallie said, “We were just looking at a neat bug.  It was a caterpillar.”  Finn chimed in, “And some hissing bugs were mating!”  They kept to their...

What Fallie said
I was asking Fallie who she wanted to invite to her upcoming birthday and she named the usual kids from the neighborhood, her best friend and her sister’s best friend.  I could tell that she was still thinking and then she asked if she had to invite _______ and _______ (two kids that used to live next door).  I said that she did not have to.  Fallie said, “Good!  Because who wants to...

Anthropomorphize much
Yesterday Fallie noticed a chipmunk with her baby in our neighbor’s driveway.  The mama was trying to get the baby to follow her across the driveway and the baby was NOT going to follow her.  The mama kept crossing the cement and running back to the baby.  She seemed really irritated after a few times, even raising her tail straight up in the air and shaking it.  Poor mama chipmunk.  I have...

Montessori School Picnic
The Montessori school had a school-wide picnic on Wednesday at the park.  I made macaroni & cheese with Vermont Cheddar and Gruyere with sour dough breadcrumbs on top and fudge.  The macaroni was completely finished off.  Actually Finn got to have the last serving - it is one of her favorite foods.  That made me happy.  Fallie was thrilled with her fudge, her VERY favorite food.  She keeps...

News from the girls' teachers
Finn is still the “perfect Montessori student” according to her teacher.  Finn is a classroom leader and enjoys helping other students, especially younger ones.  She always finishes her work, chooses challenging work and is very thorough. Their teacher has discovered that Fallie picks up on things quickly immediately and is wicked smart.  Her assistant techer overheard a comment Fallie...

Finn's backpack for hiking with Babo
Finn carried a baseball cap (stolen from her Babo’s car), a bug jar, a bandana, a toy digital camera (that doesn’t really work anymore), and a small notebook.  Eventually she carried Fallie’s bug jar (full of rattling green pecans) too because its strap broke.

What Fallie sees at night
The previous owners of our house painted glow in the dark dots on the ceiling in our daughters’ bedroom.  Fallie looks at them at night before she goes to sleep.  Here is what she saw Friday night: a Pikachu face a kitty leaping in the air 2 penguin faces 2 mouse faces When she finished telling me the list, she said, “It’s neat!”

The Twelve Days of Christmas by Ms. Lani, Finn &...
The girls made up this song with their teacher, Ms. Lani.  It is sung to the music of The Twelve Days of Christmas but it is “My Fallie” instead of “My true love.” And yes, it is a “bear tree” - a tree that grows bears. A partridge in a bear tree Two Tylenol Three wheels of cheese Four caterpillars Five underwear Six dental flosses Seven tooth picks ...

My Clumsiness is Hilarious
I sprained my ankle by going down one step into my garage on a Monday morning.  For real.  I waited until after lunch to go to the doctor because I twist my ankles so frequently that I needed to wait and see if this was serious.  Apparently it was.  I have a grade 3 sprain and was given crutches…  Not good for someone like me.  Luckily I was able to go to an orthopedist and got an air cast...
